Scammers Still Active in Quarantine

Despite the Covid-19 lockdown, scammers are still working online to steal your identity, empty your bank account, and generally make your life miserable.

Beware of any emails or ads that look too good to be true. Only sign in to sites that you have gone to directly, not that you’ve been linked to. Scammers can make their emails look pretty convincing when they claim to be your bank, or a credit card company.

Check the URL to make sure that it really is the company URL. They’ll use a variation of the URL so that it looks legitimate. Double-check the company website to make sure you’re on the right page. For example, Burger King’s URL is BK.com. A fake site might be using BurgerKingBK.com.

The trouble is that it’s so hard to bring scammers to court. They have elaborate computer systems that disguise where they are coming from. It’s hard for investigators to even be sure of what country they’re in, so make sure that you protect yourself!
